Abstract

A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE, who grew up in a large Irish Catholic family, once told me that she wouldn’t vote for John Kerry for the sole reason that he didn’t oppose abortion. After heated discussion, mixing the taboo subjects of politics and religion into a strong cocktail, the term “value voter” was no longer abstract media jargon to me.
