Abstract
Repair of a cleft lip confers not only cosmetic and aesthetic benefits, but also functional benefits. Speech, feeding and dental hygiene are all improved by normally functioning labial closure. Approximately 3 months of age is commonly accepted as the optimal time for lip repair.
