Abstract

Constructs at the craniovertebral junction (CVJ) are complex and basic biomechanical as well as biological principles need to be applied to each individual scenario. The biomechanical properties of the CVJ must be either matched or appropriately counteracted by any construct that is to stabilize, maintain motion, and appropriate alignment. Several basic reconstruction techniques are discussed in this section.
