Abstract

It is important to continuously monitor health information in daily life under u-Healthcare environments, and some simple and unconstraint measurement methods are also required to perform such continuous monitoring. Thus, this study developed a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) that is a type of PPG based ear phone for achieving easy wearability and removed moving artifacts using an accelerometer in order to improve its accuracy under moving noises. PPG, ECG, and acceleration were measured at specific walking with 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7km/h for analyzing dynamic noises in which the sensitivity was more than 80% at the walking velocity under 7km/h from the results of the evaluation of the performance of HRM. Because the HRM based on an ear phone developed in this study is able to simply and stably measure heart rate in daily life or moving environments, it can be usefully applied to health management and exercise prescription/management.
