Abstract
In the mean field MHD-theory, an increase in the effective magnetic diffusivity (decrease of electric conductivity) of the developed turbulent flow of conducting fluid is commonly referred to as the β-effect. In spite of the fact that the effect seems to be quite obvious (in comparison with a far more sophisticated β-effect), up to now there have been no reliable direct measurements of effective electric conductivity in turbulent flows. We present the results of experiments, which intend to isolate the contribution of turbulence to the magnetic diffusivity.
