Higher-Order Component Service Architecture (HOC-SA)
Web services are the communication technology which is used for connecting HOCs and client applications over the Internet in all examples presented in this book. In Chapter 2, HOCs were introduced and the use of Web services was taken for granted, sinceWeb services are the standard communication technology in the Globus toolkit which is the underlying grid middleware of all current HOC implementations. In this chapter the advantages of Web services over alternative communication technologies, especially concerning the interoperability among software which is written in different programming languages, are discussed in more detail.
