Abstract
Acute abdominal pain is a common basis for referral to the general surgeon. Unlike his/her metropolitan counterparts, the rural surgeon is often required to make decisions with limited access to investigations. They also often need to be capable of managing paediatric and obstetric presentations causing acute abdominal pain.
Given that the numerous causes of acute abdominal pain range from the relatively trivial to the immediately life-threatening, we aim to create a support lattice to aid in systematic differentiation and management.
