Mechanical Principles

Part of the Shock Wave and High Pressure Phenomena book series (SHOCKWAVE)

Abstract

In this chapter we discuss kinematical descriptions of motion, mathematical representation of internal force systems, and principles of balance of mass, momentum, and energy in general forms that that apply to all continuous materials. Several subsequent chapters are devoted to discussion of the constitutive relations that are used to express the distinguishing characteristics of specific materials.
