This book deals with the early metal extraction and production of copper from the ore deposits in Faynan, at the eastern edge of the Wadi Arabah between the Dead Sea and the Red Sea. The metal production in this area can clearly be used as an example of the archaeometallurgy of copper in the entire Southern Levant, as Faynan is the most important source of raw material in the region. The topics of research included questions concerning the geology of mineral deposits in order to form the base for further understanding of early mining and smelting, as well as geochemistry and the lead isotope analyses of ore, metal and slag with the aim of reconstructing technical processes and studies of provenance.
