Abstract

The growth of wüstite and olivine crystals by the micro-pulling-down technique is described. In both cases, growth requires precise control of the partial pressure of oxygen in the ambient atmosphere, which is achieved through the use of a dilute CO-CO2 mixture. Unusual features of these growth processes are also discussed in some detail.
