Abstract

Our aim is to study the detailed chemical composition of the first galactic stars, which contain an important record of the products of nucleosynthesis in the Big Bang and the earliest stellar generations. Stars with [Fe/H]≤3 are being identified from candidates in the surveys by Beers et al. (1985, 1992). Determination of the detailed elemental and isotopic composition of these faint stars (V≤15) will require the VLT and UVES.
