On the formation of molecular helium ion

Summary

The stability of the ion He2+(**) can be studied even quantitatively with the method of HEITLER and LONDON. The results agree with the available experimental data. It appears that this compound is analogous to H2 even though the external electron is in a different state and the internal electrons do not only have the effect of screening the nuclear charges but instead contribute effectively to the molecular construction.
