Production of hollow particles by suspension polymerization of divinylbenzene with nonsolvent

Abstract
Suspension polymerization for divinylbenzene droplets including n-hexadecane as a nonsolvent for polydivinylbenzene (PDVB) was carried out. The hollow particles were produced under conditions where phase separation in the droplet occurred at an early stage of polymerization. The time when phase separation begins, depends on both the content of n-hexadecane and the crosslinking reaction of PDVB. Phase separation behavior during polymerization is discussed by means of phase diagrams.
