Aerodynamic characteristics of high Mach, low Reynolds numbers flow past micro spheres
We conducted a numerical study of low Reynolds and high Mach numbers flows over micro spheres with the aim of clarifying their aerodynamic characteristics. First, the flow over a single sphere was studied in detail for a range of Mach and Reynolds numbers and the results were validated with experimental data. Then, multiple orderly-configured spheres were studied, showing that the mutual interference effects are long range, owing to the shock waves and strong diffusion in the flow. Finally, we considered transient behavior induced by a moving shock over the particles.
