Abstract

In this chapter we describe the major tasks that arise during order management in the most important functional areas. The SC “includes activities such as material sourcing, production scheduling, and the physical distribution system, backed up by the necessary information flows. Procurement, manufacturing, inventory management, warehousing, and transportation are typically considered part of the supply chain organization.” But product development, demand forecasting, order entry, channel management, and customer service are also very relevant topics in SCM (cf. Bovet/Martha 2000, p. 17).
