Zusammenfassung
Die Beziehungen zwischen den Rassen treten in der britischen Gesellschaft zunehmend ins Bewußtsein, insbesondere bei den Sozialen Diensten. Hauptsächlich betroffen sind die Bereiche der Kinderfürsorge, insbesondere bei der Pflegevermittlung und der Adoption. Hier haben sich spezielle Veränderungen im Laufe der Jahre aufgrund des wechselnden gesellschaftlichen und politischen Klimas ergeben (Gill, Jackson 1983; Cheetham et al. 1981; Rhodes 1993). Trotz der Konzentration auf Adoptionen wurden einige der Argumente auf gemischtrassige Familien angewandt, besonders auf Familien, in denen eine alleinerziehende weiße Mutter ein „schwarzes“ Kind aufzieht.
