Students’ Motivations for Joining ifu

Part of the Schriftenreihe der internationalen Frauenuniversität »Technik und Kultur« book series (SIFU, volume 5)

When applying for participation at ifu, each potential student had to submit together with her official data a personal statement explaining her motivation. As described in smore detail in the chapter by Floyd & Klein-Franke in this volume, one of my responsibilities was to read all of 360 submitted applications for ifu’s Project Area Information and decide on who was to be admitted in cooperation with other ifu experts and the German Academic Exchange Service (daad). The personal statements were particularly important for making this selection. The actual participation of the 126 students was, in many cases, determined by the availability of grants.
