Summary

The three-dimensional flow field inside the draft tube proposed by the GAMM WORKSHOP 1989 organizers is here simulated with FIDAP, a fluidodynamic program based on the finite element method. The mesh has been generated with the aid of FIDAP Meshing module. The solution method is based on the Navier-Stokes equations, taking into account turbulence with the k-∈ model. The numerical analysis was carried out solving sequentially the submatrices that include only the unknowns of one conservation equation. Results show wide areas of secondary flow extended to the outlet section, which affect pressure recovery.
