Spherical Wavelet Packets and Its Application in Physical Geodesy

Abstract

Mathematical problems arising in Physical Geodesy are naturally embedded in a spherical context. Therefore, the development of a wavelet theory on the sphere is of basic interest. In this paper we give the mathematical background of one type of discretization and present a wavelet packet expansion of the disturbing potential.
