Abstract

The following volume is a space where a diverse array of science educators and researchers lay out their stories of coming to work in a field full of barriers, challenges, and contradictions. Historically, science education has seldom provided a space for the stories of educators, although that is now changing. Scientific endeavour, which for us includes science education, can only find meaning in the narratives that surround and permeate its practices. If this is true, what benefits might result from telling our stories as educators and researchers? How might we move toward a sociopolitically and ethically engaged practice for the sake of the planet? How are the stories of science educators vastly different, based on social location and circumstance? Lastly, what can we draw together collectively? Part of this answer, we hope, awaits in the experiences, stories, and research that follows.
