Secondary School Students’ Computer Self-Efficacy and Their Perception on Computer-Related Tasks in Indonesia

The current study was conducted to investigate secondary school students’ computer self-efficacy and their perceptions on computer-related tasks in Indonesia. Although information and communication technologies (ICT) have been widely used in secondary schools and in higher education institutions in Indonesia, there is still limited information regarding students’ computer self-efficacy. In Indonesia, ICT is not only used to support student’s learning, but it also is used as an assessment/evaluation tool, not only at schools but also at the regional and national levels. One hundred and thirty-five secondary school students participated and completed the adapted version of the computer self-efficacy (CSE) scale. The participants were students from three different demographic regions. In the study, the researchers collected quantitative and qualitative data. While the quantitative data were collected from the CSE questionnaire, the qualitative data were gathered from open-ended questions. This study will benefit secondary school students, educators, and IT managers at the secondary school level. Moreover, the findings of the present study may also be valuable for policy makers who have interest in the use of computers in the educational institutions of Indonesia.
