Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune inflammatory disease characterized by pain and swelling of joints. RA must be diagnosed and treated as early as possible. If RA progresses without appropriate therapy inflammation can cause joint destruction and organ system damage. Uncontrolled RA is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic disease and early mortality.
