Abstract

The general surgeon may be called with the finding of a thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (TAAA). This is a relatively uncommon situation in the population at large; however, the morbidity and mortality related to the disease process and its treatment is significant. Appropriate recognition, assessment, initial treatment, and appropriate referral is key in managing a patient with this particular pathology.
