Abstract

Management of an acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage in the acute care setting is challenging because definitive care requires emergency endoscopy. Since an emergency endoscopy is an unscheduled and unpredictable event, 24-hour access to specialists is critical. Effective communication of the urgency for the endoscopy to the on-call specialist may determine how quickly the endoscopy is performed. We will discuss the optimal timing of the endoscopy.
