This conclusion seeks to summarize and assess the seminal issues raised by all the essays. It points out that the Irish clerical networking system was a complex and dense patchwork of links developed at the same time by prominent figures and groups. A key point that emerges is that throughout the longer period examined the Papal Curia had to adapt to the evolving faces of Irish Catholicism in Ireland, and in the Atlantic world, with the consequence that it could never develop a homogeneous strategy of intervention.
