Tabletop Gaming in Wildlife Conservation—‘Park Life’
Within a level 6 Wildlife Conservation module, students play a novel four player board game called ‘Park Life’ developed by Dr. Robinson to reinforce taught concepts. The game strategy is the creation of a sustainable wildlife park through decisions regarding investment of their limited funds. Players must also maintain a genetic stud book and track the location of all animals as on each turn, there is the chance that their breeding pairs will produce offspring. Although a competitive game, Park Life fosters cooperative interactivity in its completion. Students found that the game helped to draw together topics covered within the module and provided an aid to revision. Although used in a HE setting, the game could also be adapted for FE and wider use.
