Abstract

Training in bariatric endoscopy has traditionally been carried out informally at an endoscopy unit in a manner similar to other areas of professional education. Bariatric endoscopy is currently evolving, using more sophisticated and more durable equipment, requiring the presence of a well-trained multidisciplinary team including surgeons, clinicians, endocrinologists, psychologists, nurses, physiotherapists, and nutritionists to reduce the likelihood of postoperative complications.

This chapter presents solutions to surgical challenges involving bariatric endoscopy and shows the importance of a team specialized in bariatric endoscopy for training of endoscopists/surgeons in diagnostic and therapeutic bariatric endoscopy.
