Inguinal Hernia Repair Around Prostatectomy

Abstract

The lifetime risk of developing an inguinal hernia is about 25% and the risk of developing prostate cancer is 14%. Therefore, many men will have both inguinal hernias and prostate cancer. Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair is performed in the preperitoneal plane, which is also where a prostatectomy is performed. In this chapter, we evaluate the data regarding performing a laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair before, during, and after a prostatectomy.
