Mount Uludağ: The Making of Turkey’s St. Moritz
Mount Uludağ has become the largest winter sports centre in Turkey with a unique history of development and influence on leisure culture. But little is known about its history. In this chapter, Inal offers an overview of the mountain’s transformation from a static, wild, and solitary place into the most celebrated ski resort in Turkey. Focusing on the period between the first skiing expedition into the region during the 1920s and its development as a fully fledged resort in the 1960s, this chapter discusses the ways Mount Uludağ was explored, experienced, and consumed.
