Advancing Tarsoconjunctival Flaps from the Same Lid
Eyelid reconstruction requires separate reconstruction of the anterior and posterior lamella. Posterior lamella may be reconstructed with a number of techniques. Advancement of a tarsoconjunctival flap from the same eyelid is an option in posterior lamellar reconstruction and has the advantage of the avoidance of a donor site and not closing the eyelids postoperatively. This technique can be used for reconstruction of up to 60% defects. Reconstruction of the anterior lamella can then be performed with either local flaps or free grafts, as the flap provides a vascularized bed.
