Case 20: Zone I Open Globe Repair with Secondary Removal of Lens Using a Pars Plana Approach
A 54-year-old man presented with a limbus-to-limbus, stellate Zone I open globe injury of the left eye following a penetrating injury from projectile wooden material. The patient underwent repair of his open globe injury and required secondary lensectomy through pars plana approach 10 days later. The patient developed cystoid macular edema that improved with a long course of topical treatment, achieving a final visual acuity of 20/80+ with a rigid gas permeable contact lens.
