Abstract

Arterial line insertion for monitoring purposes is one of the most common operating room procedures. An average academic center has approximately 13,000 arterial line insertion every year, thus underscoring the importance of judicious data interpretation. Analysis of the arterial pressure waveform morphology can provide useful diagnostic information which requires a proper understanding of the arterial waveform, it’s determinants, and the arterial pulse contour. They can provide information beyond systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
