Using Gaze Control for Communication and Environment Control: How to Find a Good Position and Start Working

Abstract

The research project ‘EyeTrack4all’, based at Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, showed that using gaze control to operate a communication aid or computer provides vital access to self-determination and participation for people who are permanently or temporarily unable to move and express themselves. In addition, a person with severely impaired motor function can use gaze control to operate various domestic devices. This chapter explains how gaze control works, what the prerequisites are for using gaze control, what to watch out for in tests and how a user achieves good positioning.
