Liver Resection

Chapter

Abstract

Liver resection has been transformed from a high-risk procedure to one that is now performed frequently with a minimal mortality and acceptable morbidity. In-depth preoperative assessment and risk stratification of patients undergoing liver surgery, in addition to advancements in perioperative care and surgical techniques, play a significant role in risk reduction. This chapter aims to emphasize important aspects of preoperative evaluation such as assessment of liver function and prediction of the future liver remnant. Operative guidelines and essential techniques, such as minimal invasive liver surgery, are also addressed in addition to alternative management for nonsurgical candidates.
