Abstract
The next three Manly articles are all about the cryptographic section of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) in France during the war—G2-A6. This first article (Article I) contains several anecdotes about the AEF. It mentions Major (later Colonel) Frank Moorman as the head of the cryptographic section in France. The article also defines and describes the differences between codes and ciphers and gives some examples.
