The Smart Building in the Smart City

Abstract

Technologies enable us to make buildings more energy-efficient, more water-efficient, or in general more resource-efficient and sustainable. We design buildings with high-performance appliances that reduce the use of resources tremendously. We incorporate features that allow the building to produce more energy than it uses. And we install smart meters and integrate the Internet of Things to analyze big data on the efficiency of the building operation. Today, we create so-called smart buildings.
