Predesigned Breast Shaping Assisted by Multidetector Row CT Angiography in Autologous Breast Reconstruction
Abstract
Free abdominal flaps are the first option in autologous breast reconstruction. A plethora of variations of the abdominal wall’s vascular anatomy made the preoperative multidetector-row CT (MDCT) angiography an essential tool for mapping the abdominal perforators. A preoperative design for shaping the new breast is based on the measurements of the contralateral breast to achieve symmetry. The template of the new breast is centralized around the selected best perforators of the abdominal flap according to the MDCT angiography findings. Studies of the above technique have proved the advantages of the pre-designed breast shaping assisted by MDCT angiography which promotes a significant reduction in the overall operating time and need for secondary symmetrisation procedures.
