High Technology Products: The Future of Protectionism

Abstract

The call for protectionism has traditionally occurred in technologically deficient industries such as steel. However, U.S. competitors appear to be engaging in supportive protectionism in high technology markets. This paper analyzes the impact of this protectionism on the U.S. jet transport industry and suggests that the industry be afforded protection so that it does not become the automobile industry of the 21st century.
