The Plane Survey

  • P. W. West

For inventory and general forest management purposes, it is essential to have available a map of any forested area of interest. This chapter describes how a survey of the boundary of a forested area should be conducted to produce a map drawn on a flat (plane) surface. The principles of the global positioning system are described also, a system that has use for navigation around the forest as well as for the conduct of surveys.
