Abstract

Small bowel (SB) imaging plays a key role in the investigation and management of idiopathic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Assessment of the SB forms part of the diagnostic process in patients suspected of having enteral inflammatory lesions and remains essential for the evaluation of disease activity in patients with an established diagnosis of Crohn’s disease (CD). Revolutionary advances in SB endoscopic technologies seen over the last decade have been paralleled by similar progress in the field of dedicated SB cross-sectional imaging. This chapter reviews the evidence base relating to these SB imaging technologies in the setting of IBD and evaluates their relative roles and their impact on outcomes within this clinical paradigm.
