Abstract

The article discusses a new scientific approach which was called "Automation of innovative processes» (Computer-Aided Innovation - CAI). CAI combines various interdisciplinary research in the sphere of innovation in order to increase the effectiveness of new product development (NPD). The analysis of international scientific experience and more than 150 software products in the field of automation of innovation processes gave us the classification of CAI tools. It is shown that complex CAI includes usually the subsystem for the management and generating ideas for new products development. The innovative design is a knowledge-intensive process which requires knowledge of diverse domains. However, it is unclear, how to model and represent this knowledge in a uniform and computable way. The article describes how knowledge-based techniques can be used to organize a computer support for innovative design based on energy-information method of modeling processes of different physical nature.
