HeartWays Solution for Exercise Based Cardiac Rehabilitation
Abstract
Different studies identify evidences of the benefits of exercise based cardiac rehabilitation after an acute heart event (i.e. myocardial infarction) in the reduction of mortality and morbidity of the patients. Despite of all, exercise based rehabilitation is not being widely prescribed nowadays to the population in Europe. Main reasons are: currently they can only be offered to reduced geographical area because of lack of tools to effectively manage in an individualized way the rehabilitation program at home; the lack of tools to control the quality and quantity of the exercise performed; and the lack of studies that provide enough evidences what would motivate to the doctors to prescribe exercise.
HeartWays proposes a solution based in the combination of applications for patients at home and on the move (while exercising outdoors), monitoring devices to measure physiological parameters and the quality of the exercise performance, and finally, management tools for professionals for the definition and follow up of the prescribed exercise plan. This paper describes the components that compose the solution and their expected added value.
