Abstract

A number of the properties which have suffered due to the use of pyritiferous aggregate are owned by Dublin City Council. The remediation of two publicly owned developments is presented, with particular attention given to the significance of lateral, not just vertical heave. The experience has indicated that although the removal of the expanding fill may result in the closure of significant cracks in the building and the settling back of the roof and structural walls, care must be taken during the remedial works if secondary damage is to be avoided during the settling process.
