Abstract
An infective particle which consists of a single or double chain of DNA or RNA and is covered by a protein coat known as capsid. Viruses do not possess a proteosynthetic apparatus, and therefore can only undergo replication inside animal or plant cells which they have invaded through specific receptors. They cause a number of human, animal and plant diseases.
