Abstract

This chapter focuses on cell-cell and cell-substrate interactions and their consequence for collective phenomena on the multicellular level. These interactions occur in many different systems at almost all developmental stagesin-vitro as well asin-vivo. The richness of the observed phenomena asks for suitable methods to understand basic principles underlying multicellular organization.
