The Application of Two-Dimensional Capillary Electrophoresis to the Identification of Glycan Structures

Abstract

Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is a new, emerging technique that resolves complex mixtures of glycoconjugates and glycans with great efficiency (1). Various modes of separation are available in a single fused silica capillary, such as simple zone electrophoresis (1), zone electrophoresis as borate (2) or metal (3) complexes, micellar electrokinetic chromatography (4) and others. Modes of separation are easily exchangeable simply by washing the capillary and then filling it with the carrier solution.
