Summary

The novel technique of scintigraphic defaecography was used for the assessment of rectal evacuation in patients with various mechanical and functional anorectal disorders. Dynamic gamma camera images were acquired while subjects evacuated artificial stool labelled with 100 MBq of Tc-99m. Our early experience with 145 patients leads us to recommend this technique for the objective quantification of anorectal function.
