The Dissociation of Strontianite and Its Quantitative Estimation by Thermogravimetry

Abstract
Simultaneous TGA/DTA techniques have been used to provide basic data on the dissociation of strontianite for a proposed industrial process to extract this mineral from carbonatite ores. The effect of impurities such as Fe2O3 and quartz on the strontianite dissociation was also investigated. In addition, thermal analysis of a selection of strontianite-bearing carbonatites showed good correlation between strontianite values calculated from chemical analysis and from the high temperature CO2-loss: this method can also provide quantitative information on the amounts of associated minerals.
