It has been said that every politician is either a crusader or an opportunist. Most may be one or the other, but the most successful politicians are both. The fact is no crusader will succeed if he lacks the ability to see and seize opportunities that come his way. And no opportunist will survive if he doesn’t have something to show by way of accomplishments to his constituents at re-election. But whatever he is or believes himself to be, he can be neither a crusader-politician nor an opportunist-politician unless he first gets himself elected.
