Abstract

The use of statistical concepts to describe Nature was first introduced to describe classical (not quantum) systems with many degrees of freedom, such as a very large number of molecules or atoms in a macroscopic volume of fluid. However this is not the only situation where statistical concepts must be used to describe natural phenomena.
